About Our Organisation

William, born and raised in the coastal town of Teshie, Accra Ghana, is a social entrepreneur, place maker and an educator with a deep passion for community development and education. After completing his secondary education in Ghana, William had the opportunity to move to Belgium, where he studied socio-cultural work, further broadening his perspectives and skills.

In Belgium, William worked with Cultureghem, an organization committed to inclusion, community building, and creativity. Over the course of ten years, he held various roles, including educator, coordinator of the mobile educational cooking workshop project (which connects people to their community and city), volunteer coach, and project leader.

During this period, he had the opportunity to participate in a two-year European research project in collaboration with the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), focused on citizen participation in community development and sustainable urban mobility — “Transforming streets into accessible urban oases through consensus building.” This project took him to Austria, Istanbul, and Sweden, where he gained valuable international experience.

William’s extensive experience at Cultureghem provided him not only with deep insight into the power of community-based initiatives but also with the practical skills to manage projects successfully and bring people together in meaningful ways.

Now, a new chapter begins. Armed with a wealth of knowledge and experience, William is returning to Ghana, determined to apply what he learned in Belgium to his home country. His current focus is on developing innovative initiatives such as the Mobile Computer Lab, a project designed to bridge the digital divide and empower the youth of Teshie through access to technology and education, through his organisation Empower Communities Ghana.

William’s work is defined by a strong commitment to collaboration, sustainability, and the belief that access to education and technology is a crucial foundation for the future of both individuals and communities. His journey stands as a testament to the power of opportunity, perseverance, and the determination to make a difference—no matter the circumstances.
